Dreams and Passions

My story started from a little girl crammed in a small house full of love, prayer and laughter. It felt comfortable but I wanted more. I didn’t see much growth when I took in my surroundings so I started to dream. Back then I wanted to leave home, go to law school and be on a dance team. Something happened behind the confines of my room. I started to write poetry and then everything changed. I found myself being lost in other worlds and I never wanted it to end. Books became my life, writing became my life. Four months after I graduated High School I left to join the Navy. It was eye opening to say the least. I ordered books everyday almost and started watching all the tv shows I missed while at home. One of them was #onetreehill. I can’t say how much the show changed my life. At the time I was in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, away from my family for 7 months. @chadmichaelmurry Character Lucas spoke to me so vividly. I’ll never forget some of his quotes and one that pushed me to write more. “Do you ever look at a picture of yourself and see a stranger in the background? Makes you wonder how many strangers have pictures of you. How many moments of other people’s lives have we been in? Were we a part of someone’s life when their dreams came true? Or were we there when their dreams died? Did we keep trying to get in as is if we were somehow destined to be there? Or did the shot take us by surprise? Just think. You could be a big part of someone else’s life and not know it.”

From that moment I knew I wanted to be an inspiration to others. I wanted to be the reason they followed their dreams and passions. After Lucas write his book on the show, I wrote my first novel on deployment.

I didn’t publish it but it was the fact that I write an entire book with difficult characters in 3 months. I had no idea about book writing, I suppose reading them so much came into play.

Fast forward to 5 years after the Navy. I’m now a best selling author and recipient of The Unsung Hero Award for my narrative in an Anthology called #Voicesfromthebayou

Now I want to help change the lives of others by helping them write their stories. @leakedfrommypen isn’t just a business I started, it’s a passion

Never give up on your dreams. You’ll wake up one day and realize that all you needed was to awaken what’s already inside of you!

Be present, love your craft, pay attention to what’s in front of you!
